Development drilling at the field is expected to start in 2012. Commencement of initial production, which is targeted for 2014, will depend on the receipt of necessary clearances from the government. The cost of developing Tubular Bells is estimated to be $2.3bn.
Hess Corporation, an integrated energy company located in New York City, is the operator of Tubular Bells. It currently has a 40% working interest in the project and once BP’s share is transferred (approval pending), the company’s ownership will increase to 57.14%.
Chevron USA, co-partner in the project, will hold the remaining 42.86% interest.
